About Ava
Ava Safir, JD, MS, RDN is a Registered Dietitian specializing in nutrition counseling and education. Ava began her professional career as an attorney in New York City. After moving to Connecticut, she worked as a certified personal trainer and certified Pilates instructor, adapting sessions to clients across the lifespan. Ava deepened her passion for nutrition after experiencing firsthand how nutrition therapy and lifestyle changes significantly improved her health and well-being. This experience inspired Ava to earn her RDN licensure and Master of Science in Nutrition Education at Columbia University-Teacher’s College.
Approach to care
Ava strongly believes in a personalized approach to counseling in which she partners with her clients to discover the nutrition and lifestyle approaches that work best for them. She also rejects diet culture and believes the risk of medical conditions can be reduced while also enjoying food. Ava enjoys working with adolescents and adults on a range of issues, with special focus on gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, heart disease, anti-inflammatory protocols, weight gain/loss, and intuitive eating.
Your first session with Ava
During the first session, Ava likes to get to know her clients, with a special focus on learning each client's specific goals. Ava and her clients conduct a medical history review, an assessment of a typical food day, and then create action steps each client can begin implementing at the end of the first session. Ava provides nutrition education throughout the counseling process, and supports her clients through handouts, website links, and email communication between sessions.
