About Amanda

I became interested in nutrition while living in Okinawa, Japan, and noticed the differences between the Asian diet and the American diet. I started college in Japan and transferred to Appalachian State University to get my degree in Food and Nutrition. I was then accepted into a Dietetic Internship in Florida, subsequently passed my RD exam, and worked for the Palm Beach County Health Department for just over two years, working in the WIC program. My dad retired from the Marine Corps in CA, so I decided to move there and started a position working at a Veterans' Home providing care to military veterans. I was then offered a position at the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Nutrition Clinic. I was quickly promoted to Supervisor, and supervised an additional three Dietitians and a secretary. During my 11 years at NHCP, I got married and had two beautiful children. In 2020, my husband and I moved to TX so we could adjust our lifestyles to have more time with our children.

Approach to care

My approach to care is centered around providing evidence-based, individualized nutrition treatment to address specific health needs and promote overall well-being. I like to take every aspect of your life into account since everything is connected. I assess your nutritional status, including dietary habits and preferences, health history, and lifestyle factors, to personalize your care based on your needs, values, and the latest scientific evidence on nutrition. I then develop realistic goals with you to manage any conditions like diabetes, heart disease, digestive disorders, or to support recovery and promote healthy habits for weight management. I'll provide education and counseling to empower you to make informed dietary and lifestyle choices, build a peaceful relationship with food, and foster sustainable changes. As we continue to follow up, I'll track progress, adjust interventions as needed, and provide continued support, helping you achieve your optimal long-term health goals.

Your first session with Amanda

During our first session, I'll get to know you, your food preferences, your health history, and whatever you want to talk about that you feel is affecting your health. I'll want to talk about what foods you like and dislike, what you normally have for breakfast/lunch/dinner/snacks, etc. Also, any supplements and/or medications you take, and how consistent you are with them. Discussing hydration is always a must. We'll agree on some short-term goals, and I'll likely send you a handout or two to help with your goals. Questions are always welcome!
