About Amanda
Hi! My name is Amanda Lewalski, I have been a dietitian for over 5 years working in long term care, subacute rehabilitation and hospital settings. I have experience with many different disease states including heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease and diabetes. Friends and family would describe me as upbeat, warm, empathetic and come to me when they need someone who listens without judgement. I got into dietetics after knowing someone dealing with type 1 diabetes and realizing the need for a nutrition professional to help people manage chronic conditions amidst busy lives and burn out. Working in hospitals and long term care facilities, I witnessed people suffering from diseases that could have been prevented with lifestyle changes. Seeing the pain and discomfort that I could help prevent has kept my passion for nutrition counseling and education alive. I look forward to helping you feel your best while doing the things you love with the people you love the most!
Approach to care
There are so many factors that can influence what foods you gravitate toward, what makes you feel full and satisfied and how the food you eat affects how you look and feel. My focus in our sessions will be to get to know you, your eating habits, your goals and what is influencing your choices so that we can work together to help you achieve your health goals and feel your best. I prioritize how foods can nourish your body vs thinking of certain foods as “good” and others as “bad”. I like to incorporate mindful and intuitive eating practices into your plan of care where appropriate. I prioritize getting adequate macro and micro nutrients through diet first, and view supplements as a way to fill gaps that aren’t able to be filled through diet alone.
Your first session with Amanda
In our first session we will be getting to know each other as well as what you want out of our time together. I like to gather information such as your current eating habits, any concerns you have, any goals you’re striving towards as well as your hobbies and day to day activities that might influence your nutrition. Our first session will also help you get to know my style and approach to care and if it is a good fit for you!
