About April
Hello! My name is April, and I have been a professional dietitian for over 30 years. Throughout my career, I have encountered numerous fad diets. While these diets can appear attractive, they often come with health risks. I firmly believe that sustainable lifestyle changes are essential for achieving health, wellness, and happiness. My mission is to help you understand your body's nutritional requirements and meet them through a balanced diet.
Approach to care
My goal is to guide you in finding a dietary approach that complements your lifestyle and fulfills your nutritional needs. Sustainable health and wellness are rooted in following a balanced, whole-food-based diet that can be maintained long-term. Focusing on restriction and elimination is not effective. Instead, I aim to help you identify nutrient-dense foods that will nourish your body and keep you energized. Over the years, I have learned that labeling foods as "good" or "bad" is unhelpful. The best approach is to practice moderation and include a variety of foods in our diet. Each person is unique, and therefore, a one-size-fits-all approach does not work. Good nutrition supports both mental and physical wellness, enhances bodily functions, improves mood, and sharpens the mind. If you choose to work with me, I am dedicated to helping you make the changes you desire and guiding you towards becoming your best self.
Your first session with April
Your first appointment with me usually lasts about an hour, providing ample time to discuss your health and nutrition goals in detail. During this visit, I will ask you a range of questions about your medical history, weight history, current medications, food preferences, allergies, and dietary habits. This comprehensive assessment helps me understand your baseline health and nutritional needs. By the end of the visit, we will set a few goals and schedule a follow-up appointment. I look forward to the opportunity to support you on your journey to better health.
