About Bruce
Hi, Iām Bruce Avila-Macias, a Registered Dietitian who has been practicing since 2024. I was born and raised in Central Coast California and studied up North in the Chico area. I became a dietitian because I believe in building strong relationshipsāwith food, with others, and with ourselves. My passion for nutrition began in high school and developed throughout my studies at California State University, Chico. Clients can expect empathy, collaboration, and personalized strategies that respect their unique lifestyles and values. Outside of my work as a dietitian, I enjoy staying active by working out, walking my dogs, exploring new hiking trails, and playing basketball (Go KINGS!) . I also care deeply about community, politics, and advocacy, and I love forming connections with people from all walks of life.
Approach to care
My approach to care is patient-centered, empathetic, and grounded in motivational interviewing. In my work with WIC, pediatrics, senior nutrition, and community health programs, Iāve learned the importance of meeting each person where they are and honoring their unique circumstances. Whether Iām supporting someone managing type 2 or gestational diabetes, guiding parents through pediatric nutrition, or encouraging intuitive eating, I focus on building trust and creating realistic, sustainable strategies. I believe that nutrition care works best when it feels like a partnership where clients bring their lived experience, and I bring evidence-based guidance, together shaping a path that supports health, confidence, and a positive relationship with food.
Your first session with Bruce
During our first session, we will spend time getting to know each other. Iāll ask about your health history, eating habits, lifestyle, and goals, but most importantly, Iāll listen to your story. This session will last 55-60 minutes and is all about understanding where youāre starting from and what matters most to you. Together, we will begin identifying small, realistic steps that feel manageable and fit your life. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, supported, and confident that you have a partner to walk with you on your nutrition journey.
