About Denise

I am a southern California native with experience living in Colorado and Annapolis Maryland, where I worked as a dietitian at the United States Naval Academy enhancing my skills in weight management and sports nutrition working with various athletes. I received my Masters of Public Health-Nutrition from Loma Linda University, where much of the focus was on the prevention and management of various chronic diseases. I have an extensive background in providing specialized nutritional care in the prevention and/or management of cancer patients and am a Certified Oncology Specialist (CSO). I have a passion for promoting healthful lifestyles to not only my clients but to me and my family as well. I have a 17 year old son who competes in Alpine skiing and a husband who has held the California Time Trial Title in bike racing for many years. I enjoy running/hiking, alpine and nordic skiing, seeing friends and family, and traveling. It is my goal to see all 50 states, I have 9 to go.

Approach to care

My approach is rooted in evidence-based practice, looking at the whole person, and having a respect for each individual story. I believe that food is more than just fuel, it connects people, it's part of one's culture, and can offer a sense of comfort. My goal is to help clients achieve their personal goals in a realistic, healthy way. I take a person centered approach which means I listen first. I believe that understanding a person's lifestyle, preferences, challenges, and medical history is the key to creating a plan that works for them. I aim to provide care that is supportive, nonjudgmental, and tailored to their needs. I prefer to focus on promoting long-term habit changes versus quick fixes because I believe this empowers the client with the knowledge to make life-long informed choices. Ultimately, though nutrition care that is realistic and honest, I am here to support my clients to improve their health and quality of life.

Your first session with Denise

In order for me to have a clear picture I will get to know you- your current health status, medical history, lifestyle, eating habits, and any concerns and goals that you would like to add. We will discuss your typical daily food intake, food preferences, food tolerances/intolerances, allergies, restrictions, and bowel habits. Together we will discuss a realistic and personalized goal based on your health needs, whether it is managing a medical condition, improving athletic performance, losing/gaining weight, or simply just eating more balanced meals. I will provide you with clear, practical advice and evidence-based information tailored to your needs. By the end of your session, you'll leave with a customized plan or set of recommendations that you can start implementing immediately. The plan is designed to be adjusted over time based on your progress and feedback therefore follow-up sessions are strongly encouraged.
