About Dorothy
I am a dedicated nutritional professional with over 30 years experience helping individuals improve their health through evidence- based nutrition guidance. For the past 17 years, I have specialized in weight loss support, developing personalized meal plans, coaching sustainable lifestyle changes and empowering clients to achieve long term results. Known for compassionate, client centered approach, I collaborate closely with individuals to address habits, motivation and education - not just numbers on the scale. I am committed to promoting realistic , healthy strategies that foster confidence, lasting wellness , and measurable outcomes.
Approach to care
My approach to care is collaborative, compassionate, and evidence-based. I believe that meaningful nutrition change happens when clients feel heard, supported, and empowered to make decisions that fit their lifestyle, medical needs, and personal goals. Rather than focused on rigid rules, I help clients set small, sustainable goals that move them toward improved health. Education is tailored to their learning style , preferences, and readiness for change. I emphasize practical strategies such as meal planning, mindful eating, portion awareness and behavior- based skills My counseling integrates current nutrition science with real-world application. I explain the "why" behind recommendations, translating complex information into clear, achievable steps. Motivational interviewing and behavior- change techniques guide clients in discovering strategies that work for them.
Your first session with Dorothy
Each visit begins with active listening. I take time to understand the client's medical history, eating patterns, cultural influences, barriers and motivations. I view each client as a whole person- not just a diagnosis- and create a safe judgment-free environment that encourages honesty and participation. I use a combination of dietary recall, clinical data, anthropometrics and lifestyle assessment to identify nutrition risks and opportunities.
Education
I attended Penn State University and obtained my BS Degree in Nutrition in 1985. I completed my Master's of Arts in Nutrition Education at Immaculata College, with a 6 month qualifying experience in 1990. I have been a registered dietitian since 1990 and licensed dietitian-nutritionist since 2003. I most recently became a Board Certified Specialist in Obesity & Weight Management.
Hobbies
I enjoy biking, hiking, scuba diving, reading, gardening and going to museums with my family.
