About Gretchen
My 15+ years of experience as a registered dietitian have ranged in a variety of settings, from the neonatal intensive care unit, to outpatient endocrinology, to worksite wellness. The biggest constant is that I LOVE FOOD, and I love finding a way to make whatever lifestyle changes we decide on as delicious as possible. I am the oddball that loves grocery shopping (when I can't get to a farmer's market), and I raise a bit of my own food at home (eggs, honey, vegetables). My four boys and five backyard chickens constantly challenge me with keeping them fueled, and I love nothing more than trying new foods and recipes.
Approach to care
You'll find no judgment here. I hate when people describe themselves as "good" or "bad" in relation to what they eat. There are no foods you MUST include, or exclude, to optimize health; we will work together to find the balance that works for you. I am a big proponent of whole and minimally processed foods , and supporting your local food economy whenever possible, but I get that not everyone enjoys cooking. I keep an open mind in regards to current relationship with food, preferences, food budget, and work life balance, and I ask that you have that same open mind toward new food suggestions and lifestyle changes.
Your first session with Gretchen
I dive deep to understand your background, your challenges, your strengths and current knowledge. Being informed about anything from family dynamics to whether or not you own a blender helps me craft recommendations that are realistic and specific. Be prepared for the fact that dietary changes are often multifaceted, and don't happen overnight, so we rarely address everything in just one appointment. I typically have patients choose no more than 3 goals to work on. That way it's not overwhelming, and we have a better sense of whether or not the specific changes made were successful.
