About Irene
Hi! My name is Irene Mejia. I am a dietitian and sports nutritionist, and during my career I have had the privilege to work with a variety of patients whose goals have ranged from managing chronic conditions, losing weight, building muscle mass, or simply learning how to eat healthier. My goal has always been to empower patients with education related to their goals, but also turning this information into practical strategies to help you reach your nutrition and health goals. I also focus on mindful living - because nutrition goes beyond what we eat, mental health matters too!
Approach to care
The number one concern most of my patients have is not knowing where to start. Most of us have some grasp of what we need to do to improve our health, but sometimes we don't know the why behind some of these nutrition and exercise recommendations, or we don't know what we should prioritize first. This is why my approach to care is based on two things: education and action. I believe that understanding the basics of nutrition, science, and health truly empowers us when we have a health goal - it becomes a motivator when we decide to change something in our diet or lives. But learning something is not enough - we also need to create realistic, short-term goals tailored to your lifestyle to create long-term, sustainable results. And most importantly, all of this is done in a judgement-free, compassionate environment. My role is to support YOU in your journey!
Your first session with Irene
Our first session is all about getting to know each other! This meeting is divided into three parts. First, we will talk about your goals (and barriers to your goals), your lifestyle, how your day to day looks like, your nutrition habits, etc. All of this information is valuable for our second part of the session: creating your plan of action. Together, we will tailor what the next sessions will look like, such as which education topics we will cover, the order in which you would want to target these topics, and the expected outcomes for each session. Finally, during the third and last part of our session, we dedicate some time to create some actionable goals to get you started!
