About Jennifer
Jenni Gibson MS, RD is a registered dietitian from VA who loves teaching others the magical benefits of better nutrition. A hometown girl, she received her undergrad degree from Norfolk State University before earning her master's through SUNY. She volunteered with Virginia Co-op Extension to educate those in underprivileged communities for 10 years, & was the 1st student in her area on the board of TAND, her local dietetics organization. She started her professional career in long-term care followed by working in an outpatient setting. Next she worked in the children’s hospital specializing in GI, then provided counseling and education to dialysis patients before joining Nourish.
Approach to care
My approach to care is person-centered & empathetic, but straight-forward. My clients ALWAYS feel heard and understood, and they have a voice in their own care and treatment plan(s). I'm naturally laid back and kind of goofy. But don't get it twisted, I take my clients' health seriously. I'm not into guilt trips or being judgmental. I like to play detective while working with clients to find barriers to goals and figure out how to knock them down together.
Your first session with Jennifer
During your first session, I'll ask you a ton of questions to get to know you, and share some things about me as well. I can usually find something in common with most people! We'll review your intake forms together, do a deeper dive into things like your concerns, what brought you to see a dietitian, and what you want to get out of nutrition therapy. I'll be clear on what I expect from you as my client. Then together, we will determine the best next steps and set one or more goals to get you closer to where you want to be. I've hired my own dietitian, so I know what it's like to be vulnerable on the flip side. You drive the conversation!
