About Joanne

I am a registered dietitian with over 20 years of experience. I have extensive experience in weight management, disease specific nutrition (diabetes, heart disease, gastrointestinal, etc.), and can provide counseling for a wide variety of nutrition needs. I earned a PhD from the University of Georgia in 2008, MS/DI from the University of Delaware in 2001-2004, and BS from St. Elizabeth University in 2000.

Approach to care

My approach to care encompasses an individualized approach. Recognizing that "one size does not fit all." Each person has unique needs, preferences, cultural backgrounds, medical conditions, and lifestyle factors that must be considered. In addition, I have a strong commitment to using the most current, scientifically sound research and guidelines in your recommendations.

Your first session with Joanne

During your first session we will get to know each other, explore your reasons for seeing a dietitian, discuss your nutrition and health goals, and complete a basic nutrition assessment including diet history (typical eating patterns, food preferences, cultural habits, cooking skills), medical history (health conditions, medications, lab results, weight history), and lifestyle factors (physical activity, sleep, stress, work/life balance). I may provide some immediate, practical tips, educational handouts, or resources (e.g., sample meal ideas, portion size guides) to get you started. Finally, we will prepare for the future and discuss follow-up appointments. To make the most of the appointment, consider doing the following: keeping a food diary, having a list of medications, gathering recent lab results, and writing down your nutrition questions and goals. Overall, expect a friendly, supportive, and informative conversation starting you on a personalized path towards better health.
