About Joseph
I struggled with acne when I was 19, and I was lucky to find nutrition books that helped clear my skin. This enriched my life and led me to become a dietitian. To me, nutrition means resilience, healing, culture, hope, and connection. I've had the honor of serving in a variety of clinical and community health roles, as well as several years as an urban farmer. I have a top certificate in integrative functional nutrition, which gives me confidence in systems biology, the power of nutrients, and current, exciting nutritional interventions. I immerse myself in readings on a wide range of research topics including gut health and the microbiome, nutrition for mental and cognitive health, lab testing and diagnostics, religion and culture, justice, fitness, hormonal health, and energy metabolism. I listen to my patients' stories and target core imbalances to create lasting improvements in health and enjoyment of food. I love what I do and the freedom I share with patients.
Approach to care
I establish trust and safety through transparency. I'm impressed by patients who are honest about their interests and the knowledge they seek. We make progress by identifying where we are, where we want to go, and what we can reasonably expect according to the evidence. It's an investigation, and I'm your health advocate. I have great tools and a support network to help me make the best decisions for your care.
Your first session with Joseph
I'll review your intake forms and prepare references to consider before our appointment. I'll provide an orientation to my practice and resources available to you at Nourish. We'll establish a friendship, and you'll have the opportunity to share any personal details. We'll move into an assessment of your goals, medical history and dietary habits. This allows us to agree on foods, supplements, lifestyle considerations, and collaboration with other members of your healthcare team at follow up appointments.
