About Julie

Hi! My name is Julie. I have been a Registered Dietitian for over 20 years. I started my career working as a clinical dietitian in the hospital setting providing nutrition counseling and support to patients with various disease states such as cancer, heart disease, crohn's, ulcerative colitis, short bowel syndrome, kidney disease, liver disease and post-transplant. While I continue to provide nutrition counseling on the clinical side, I also provide nutrition counseling on hormone and gut health, macronutrient counting, sports nutrition (specifically with youth athletes on pre/post training nutrition and helping clients build muscle) and healthy weight loss - making sure clients are losing body fat while preserving muscle mass. When I'm not counseling patients/clients I love spending time with my kids who are 14 and 16, weight training, swimming, and taking my dog, Tessie, for walks.

Approach to care

I'm a strong believer in meeting clients where they are at and being realistic with goals and recommendations. I like to give my clients goals that may be a bit challenging but that are also attainable. You will most likely hear me say "nothing changes if nothing changes". However, you don't need to make big changes all at once which can usually lead to frustration. Small changes can lead to big outcomes. Long lasting changes take time but if you stay dedicated and disciplined you will achieve your goals and you will most likely maintain the progress you make. I'm here to hold clients accountable and support them by giving them the tools they need to be successful in their nutrition/wellness journey.

Your first session with Julie

We will first start with a brief introduction of each other and discuss why you are seeking nutrition counseling, your nutrition/wellness goals and how I can help in supporting you as you work towards achieving those goals. We may review medical and surgical history if appropriate. We may also discuss diet history (what diets you have tried, what was successful and what wasn't, how each diet made you feel, any food sensitivities/allergies, issues surrounding food such as emotional/stress eating, etc). We will also discuss lifestyle habits including stress management, sleep and workouts/daily movement. In general, the first session is all about getting to know you as a client, what it is you are looking to get out of nutrition counseling and initial recommendations as you to start on this wellness journey with me.
