About Karen

I am a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) who believe that nutrition starts with a deep connection to the "plant to the plate." Living on a farm in Northeast Iowa, I don't just study food systems—I live them. My background is rooted in years of clinical experience in cardiometabolic health and weight management, but my approach is built on practical, real-world application. Whether we are managing a new diagnosis or fine-tuning your wellness, I bring a wealth of clinical "know-how" mixed with the grounded perspective of someone who knows exactly what it takes to grow, harvest, and prepare real food.

Approach to care

My philosophy is centered on the principle that all foods fit. I don't believe in rigid "do not eat" lists or one-size-fits-all lectures. Instead, I view our work as a partnership where we meet your specific goals together. In my experience, successful health management isn't just about "what" you eat, but how much and how often. My goal is to help you navigate your health—including blood glucose and heart health—with empathy, candor, and a focus on small, intentional changes that lead to long-term success.

Our first session is all about the big picture. We’ll start by discussing your health history and your "why"—the real-life motivations behind your health goals. We will look at your current habits and lifestyle through a non-judgmental lens. You won't leave with a list of "don'ts"; instead, you’ll have a clear, collaborative roadmap and manageable "next steps" that feel doable in your daily life.
