About Karen
I have been a registered dietitian (RD) for 19 years and for the past 15 years I have been working with a variety of patients one to one or in a group setting. Some of my experience includes weight management (including bariatric surgery and weight-loss medications), pre-diabetes and diabetes, heart-healthy eating and disordered eating. I also speak Spanish fluently and am happy to work with patients who need a Spanish-speaking RD.
Approach to care
I believe that health is not a number on a scale, but a sustainable way of living that honors your body's unique needs. My philosophy is rooted in Health At Every Size (HAES) and the 'All Foods Fit' model. I don't believe in labeling foods as 'good' or 'bad.' Instead of chasing fad diets or quick fixes, we will work together to build adequate nutrition tailored specifically to you. I don't believe there are perfect diets; nutrition is fluid and can constantly change. I believe in "progress, not perfection" and I will do my best to meet you where you are, focusing on small, realistic goals that lead to long-term empowerment rather than short-term restriction.
Your first session with Karen
1. Briefly get to know each other a little better to help you feel more comfortable. 2. Initial assessment which includes getting to know your health goals, looking at your medical history (if not available in your chart or any additional information that could be relevant and helpful), reviewing your current diet and exercise habits. This may also be an ongoing process throughout your journey with me. 3. Provide initial resources and guidance. 4. Come up with at least one short-term goal for you to work on before our next meeting. 5. Schedule follow-up visits. (Regular follow-up is part of the Nourish program)
