About Katherine

Dr. Katherine D. Owens comes to Nourish with 25 years as a Registered Dietitian with experience in clinical care, community health, food management, and international public health. As a native Texan, Dr. Owens earned her BS in Nutrition from the University of Texas at Austin in 1999 and completed her dietetic internship at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York City in 2000. She earned a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in 2006, completed a second Masters degree in Homeland Security on Agricultural Biosecurity and Food Defense from Pennsylvania State University in 2016, and completed her PhD in Health Sciences from Liberty University in 2025. Dr. Owens met her husband in uniform when deployed to Iraq. She resides in North Carolina with her husband, youngest son, and two high energy blue tick hounds. She enjoys fitness, travel, and is a brunch enthusiast.

Her philosophy is based on “food as medicine,” “you are what you eat,” and “eat as close to the earth as possible.” As a clinical dietitian, she has the experience to support your health goals, prevent drug-food interactions, promote healthy eating, exercise, good sleep, hydration, and overall wellness.

In your first session, expect compassionate care based on your needs and goals to achieve optimal nutritional health. We will discuss your eating habits, dietary patterns, daily lifestyle, sleep, hydration, and exercise. We can cover meal planning, food shopping, plus relationships with food. The session is based on your goals and will pivot to support you and your ultimate outcomes.
