About Katie
I have gained a robust amount of practical, clinical, and real life experience while working over 13 years in the field of nutrition as a registered dietitian. I completed an undergraduate degree in exercise science and a master's degree in human nutrition. I have an in depth knowledge of both nutrition science and medical nutrition, but I am also very experience in building exercise plans for my clients. My experience in nutrition includes working with many different types of individuals with different goals, but this includes nutrition for diabetes/pre-diabetes, cardiovascular disease, recovery from addiction, and sports nutrition. In addition to my work as a dietitian, I am a mom, wife, and athlete. I know the struggles of juggling many things and trying to work on health goals all at the same time. I understand that the cookie cutter nutrition advice is just not going to cut it for most individuals and, therefore, I strive to provide a flexible and individualized approach.
Approach to care
My background is in Medical Nutrition Therapy, but I also work in a functional nutrition model. This means that I look at the whole person and not just one piece of the puzzle. I am capable of doing a variety of things with my clients including meal planning, workout plans, or even just general recommendations. I like to take a bit more of a holistic approach so that first session might be more about asking lots of questions so I can really get to know my client and what makes them tick and also what might be getting in their way.
Your first session with Katie
In that first session, I want to get to know my client. I want to know about their habits, their goals, their "why" or why they decided to make an appointment with me, and of course, a general idea of their nutrition habits. I also like to get any other information that can be helpful including past medical history, labs or blood work, supplement info, or any other pertinent medical or health info. This first session is where I get to know my clients and start to get an idea of a good starting point. In this first appointment I feel like I am a bit of detective to put all of the pieces together to figure out how I can best help my client.
