About Laura
Hi, I'm Laura, a registered dietitian with over two decades of experience addressing a wide range of nutrition needs. I love being a dietitian because everybody eats- it's an instant point of connection for any age or culture. Most people want to learn to eat healthfully and flavorfully, and I enjoy being helpful in the process. In addition to 10 years of clinical positions across several specialties, I spent nearly a decade in India and 4 years in the Philippines. My dietetics skills were not employed in paid positions while I was abroad, but were frequently put to good use with friends and colleagues nevertheless.
Approach to care
My approach to nutrition care is first, listening! I believe that there are many ways to eat healthfully, and I'm eager to find the one that will be right for you. This is a no-judgment zone. I am committed to helping you move forward in your goals using evidence-based practices and realistic strategies. There is usually not "right or wrong", but there is always room for improvement, whatever that might look like. If you are knowledgeable about nutrition or the specific diagnosis that has brought you here, we will start from that point. If, however, you need a clear explanation about a diagnosis or the basics of nutrition, I'm here to help without using jargon. I have years of teaching experience in addition to my clinical experience, and I have been told that one of my strengths is making things easy to understand.
Your first session with Laura
The first session will be a time for us to get to know each other. I want to know what your goals are, what your level of understanding is, and which direction we should head in this process. Please do not be intimidated. You do not need to do anything to prepare, though if you have labwork you want me to see, feel free to bring that. The session will last 45-55 minutes. You should leave with a couple of clear, achievable goals for the following week. Later sessions will build on the successes of previous goals or readjust our approach as needed. I'm looking forward to meeting you soon!
