About Laurel

Laurel Guimarães, RDN, LD, MS is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, childbirth educator, doula, and has a master’s in human nutrition with a focus on perinatal health from the University of Alabama. She is trained in adult and pediatric weight management and is also certified as a Hypnobabies doula. She is passionate about slow & steady changes which focus on changing habits first and focusing on physical changes as a side-effect of those habit changes. She loves developing relationships with all of her patients, and loves to watch them slowly gain confidence and positive results. I am fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Approach to care

My personalized approach focused on small stepping-stone goals that facilitate slow steady progress towards long-term goals as the patient feels ready. Current habits and conditions are assessed, long term goals then short term goals are made, supported by Medical Nutrition Therapy that helps patients work through barriers (logistical, psychological, or otherwise) to make lasting habit changes.

Your first session with Laurel

50% of the time is spent assessing current habits, beliefs, conditions, concerns, and anything else that helps me learn about what the patient needs. 30% of the time is spent giving initial recommendations. The remaining 20% of the time is spent creating a game plan that feels comfortable to the patient.
