About Laurel

Hi! My name is Laurel, and I’m happy you’re here! I earned my Bachelor’s in Nutrition from the University of Rhode Island in 2017, then completed my Master’s in Nutrition and Dietetic Internship through Saint Elizabeth University in 2020. My interest in food and nutrition started with me trying to read nutrition facts on cereal boxes, and enjoying going to the grocery store with my mom. As I got older, my passion grew with participating in weight-centric sports, and my own experience in overcoming an eating disorder. For more than 5 years now, I have had the privilege of working with a large variety of individuals in playing a role in their health journey. I am passionate about helping others, and the ever-changing world of wellness and nutrition.

Approach to care

My number one philosophy in nutrition counseling is meeting someone where they are at. No one person is alike, and neither should their approach to care be. Everyone comes from different backgrounds, cultures, views, and feelings, and I as a health care provider will honor that. I like to focus on balance and moderation, and will work with you on developing attainable steps to reach your health goals. I am compassionate, empathetic, and a good listener, and will always put my best foot forward in ensuring that you will feel seen, heard, and empowered to make changes to improve your health.

Your first session with Laurel

Our first session will primarily consist of me getting to know you better! We will work on addressing any concerns and questions you have, and start by focusing on those. We will typically start discussing your diet- and that would include a typical day of eating, drinking, routine, barriers, preferences, and thoughts and feelings around food. We will also focus on your health history and any relevant information. The first visit is mostly introductory, so it’s okay if we can’t get through everything! By the end of the first session, we will have established at least a few goals of things to focus on for the next time. You will have a clear idea of the steps and strategies to potentially take to achieve these goals, and how they will be built upon.
