About Lena

I have extensive clinical experience counseling patients on disease prevention and health promotion at different life cycle stages. As a CDCES (Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist), I teach patients about the disease process, survival skills, and prevention of diabetic complications. I counsel and support patients on glucose monitoring, diabetes technology, individual nutrition plans, and physical activities. I have a wide experience working with patients suffering from kidney disease. I help ESRD (end-stage renal disease) patients who are on highly restrictive diet regimens to achieve optimal therapeutic outcomes while maintaining quality of life. In addition, I have worked with patients who observe the dietary laws of kashrus.

Approach to care

I believe in a healthy relationship with food. Food should be enjoyable and it will nourish our body and soul. My approach is about making smart choices in unique circumstances and not labeling foods as good and bad. Meal planning is essential to manage diet while navigating daily challenges. I invite to think more about food and plan ahead. It would make one more confident in making daily nutrition related decisions and ultimately help to reach desired outcome.

Your first session with Lena

I would like to learn about your goals, your food preferences and eating habits, find out your diet and weight history, and identify potential obstacles. We will need to establish trust between us that would allow us to create a plan to go forward. I see my goal as supporting you with my knowledge and expertise starting from our first meeting.

Hobbies

I love reading recipes. I have amassed a great collection of cooking books that inspire me to cook new recipes and make me marvel at how most common food staples are interpreted in different cultures. I like hiking and find that hiking in the forest is one of the most powerful ways to restore my energy.
