About Lori

I’m Lori Porter—a registered dietitian (RDN), registered yoga teacher (RYT), and EdD holder. I’m all about empowering women to make smart choices for healthy and graceful aging. Through heart-smart nutrition and yoga, we can manage heart disease risks—a top threat to women—and support long-term health. With 35 years as an RDN, I know food is more than just fuel. It’s about creating sustainable, healthy eating habits. My approach is all about easy-to-maintain lifestyle choices, not strict rules and deprivation.

Approach to care

My approach to nutrition care is centered on personalized, evidence-based guidance that empowers individuals to make sustainable lifestyle changes. I take a client-centered approach, recognizing each person’s unique needs, preferences, and health goals. Through education, motivational interviewing, and behavior-change strategies, I help clients build a positive relationship with food while improving overall well-being. I emphasize a holistic perspective, considering medical history, lifestyle, and cultural influences. Rather than restrictive diets, I promote balanced, nutrient-dense eating patterns that support long-term health. Compassion, empathy, and collaboration are key to my coaching style, ensuring clients feel supported and confident. My goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools to make informed food choices, improve health outcomes, and sustain lasting habits that enhance their quality of life.

Your first session with Lori

During your first nutrition coaching session, we’ll take the time to get to know each other and establish a foundation for your journey toward better health. The session will begin with a comprehensive discussion about your health history, lifestyle, eating habits, and personal goals. I’ll ask about your current dietary patterns, medical conditions, food preferences, and any challenges you’ve faced with nutrition in the past. Together, we’ll identify key areas for improvement and set realistic, achievable goals tailored to your needs. I’ll provide initial guidance on nutrition strategies that align with your lifestyle, focusing on sustainable changes rather than quick fixes. This session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions and share any concerns you may have. My goal is to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment where you feel empowered to take control of your health. By the end, you’ll have a clear plan and actionable steps to get started.
