About Margaret

Hi! I’m Mimi Girten, a pediatric dietitian with over 30+ years of experience working with children, teens, young adults, and their families to help them feel their best and reach their nutrition goals. I’ve spent much of my career at one of the nation’s top children’s hospitals, where I provide personalized care, education, and support for a wide range of nutritional needs. Whether it’s blenderized tube feedings, food allergies, picky eating, texture sensitivities, ADHD, feeding challenges for neurodivergent children and kids with special needs, poor weight gain in children, celiac disease, or childhood and adolescent obesity — I’m here to help. I’m also dedicated to advocating for young adults with complex medical needs, making sure they get the specialized nutrition care that’s too often overlooked in our healthcare system. I truly look forward to getting to know you and your family and working together to support your child’s health, growth, and well-being every step of the way.

Approach to care

My approach is grounded in compassion, respect, and truly listening to each family’s story. I meet every child, teen, or young adult where they are, whether they’re navigating food allergies, picky eating, ADHD, texture challenges, or complex medical needs. I create practical, personalized nutrition plans that fit real life and help families feel supported, heard, and understood. I’m especially passionate about making sure young adults with complex medical needs get the thoughtful nutrition care they so often miss out on in a system that wasn’t built with all their challenges in mind. My goal is to empower families with clear guidance, realistic solutions, and steady support so they feel confident and cared for every step of the way.

Your first session with Margaret

At your first session, we’ll take time to really get to know you and your child or young adult. I’ll ask about medical history, growth, eating habits, any challenges you’re facing—including tube feeding or specialized nutrition needs—and your goals and concerns. This is a relaxed, open conversation with no right or wrong answers. Feel free to bring any questions or notes you’d like to share. Together, we’ll develop a personalized plan tailored to your child’s or young adult’s unique needs and your family’s daily life. I’ll explain my recommendations clearly and make sure you feel comfortable and confident moving forward. Depending on your situation, we may set goals to track progress and discuss follow-up visits as needed. My goal is for you to leave your first session feeling heard, supported, and equipped with practical next steps to help your child or young adult thrive, whether managing feeding tubes, navigating complex medical needs, or improving overall nutrition.
