About Margaret
I've been a dietitian for over 25 years in various arenas - Diabetes & metabolic care, gut/digestive health, renal, weight management, vegetarian/plant-based, integrative care & wellness/lifestyle medicine. This breadth of experience has helped me grow into a more well-rounded, resourceful & seasoned professional with greater versatility in my toolkit. I’ve lived all over the US & overseas from my youngest years in an Air Force family. That experience taught many things - cultural enrichment in lifestyle, food, & the variety of stories we carry as threads we all share. It's a place of connection I make with my patients - meeting you in your story & helping you to move forward from there. Good food is high priority for me, but the quality of my health & life is fed from additional sources as well - family (& two amazing grown daughters + several animals who own me!), dear friends, fresh air, & the ever essential nutrient of levity & good humor!
Approach to care
Alignment is the starting point in understanding you & your needs to connect & map a realistic, meaningful direction together. We are a team in this journey & the alignment is the secret sauce. The real goal tho, is empowerment. My role is guide & resource to teaching & empowering you for choices that propel you toward wellbeing. ...If I give you a fish, I feed you for a day. If I teach you to fish, I feed you for a lifetime... Building the muscle of personal empowerment helps you become a more savvy decision maker for your health. My food philosophy - Food is sustenance for mind, body, spirit. It is a pleasure, touching most things in life but also sustaining source of life; fuel for our bodies we can't survive without. At their best - both in balance. The ultimate equation: Good/healthy food + stress management + rest + exercise + life balance + hydration + laughter = wellbeing
Your first session with Margaret
In our first session we spend time getting to know about each other, specifically your needs, your goals, your story and where your starting point is - meeting you where you are in your current journey. It will also include your specific medical/nutritional/food/lifestyle history and any food sensitivities/allergies, diet needs / practices, and a diet recall of your previous or usual day's food intake. We establish much of what the baseline needs are and you can certainly ask questions as you need to! It's a journey I join you on so it's us aligning, nailing down the basics and setting our initial direction - roadmap - for our path ahead. (And remember, life is fluid and ever-changing. As we set the course and initial goals, it is always possible - and reasonable - to shift & adjust course when we need to! )
