About Marla
Marla Ablon, RDN, LD, graduated with honors from the UTSW School of Health Professionals & specializes in plant-based nutrition for disease prevention and reversal. Mission: Meet clients where they are; guide them toward their short & long-term goals via evidence-based eating patterns. As a Board-Certified Lifestyle Medicine Practitioner, Marla shares the ACLM’s vision: “A world in which all physicians and health professionals have been trained and certified in evidence-based lifestyle medicine, integrating healthful behaviors into their own lives, while incorporating a lifestyle medicine-first approach to treating root causes of lifestyle-related diseases into their clinical practices.”
Approach to care
My approach: educate, guide and empower the client, utilizing motivational interviewing and smart goals, to find their own ideal solutions to their current health issues. I teach them about their health concern in a manner that is understandable and help build their motivation and confidence in order to make meaningful changes. The goal to collaborate until they become their own expert!
Your first session with Marla
The first session is for getting to know one-another and for taking a deep dive into the client’s medical history (diagnosis, labs, family history) and diet/lifestyle history (intake form, food diary, food frequency). We will clarify what focal points and outcomes are most important to the client and some education is provided. An overall long-term goal is developed and several SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-related) goals are set. We’ll also decide what to focus on at the next follow-up session. Goals are modified as needed during follow-up to ensure outcomes are met.
