About Marla
I grew up on Long Island, New York, where my personal journey with weight and health began. As a teenager, I struggled with unhealthy eating habits that eventually led to morbid obesity. I tried countless fad diets and medicationsâeach offering only temporary results. That frustrating cycle of short-term success and long-term setbacks became the driving force behind my passion for nutrition.
Approach to care
For over 35 years, Iâve dedicated my career to helping others improve their health through compassionate, evidence-based nutrition. I have broadened my expertise by working in critical care, bariatrics, cardiac units, and oncology. Having personally lived with obesity, I deeply understand the challenges that come with it, which allows me to connect with and support my clients on a personal level. I would like to incorporate some cooking lessons along with counseling to show how healthy meals can taste great and can be easy to prepare. I believe in setting realistic, achievable goals because small victories lead to lasting change. All it takes is the first step. Letâs work together toward a healthier, more empowered you.
Your first session with Marla
The first session is all about getting to know youâyour lifestyle, goals, concerns, and what's motivating you to seek support. Whether youâve worked with a dietitian before or this is completely new. We also go over your health history in detail. 24-Hour Recall: Youâll walk me through everything you ate and drank in the past 24 hours. Goal Setting and Exploring Options: Weâll talk about your short- and long-term goalsâwhether they involve weight management, improving lab values (like cholesterol, blood sugar, etc.), managing symptoms, increasing energy, or just feeling better overall. Based on your goals weâll talk about different strategies that could work for your life. This is a judgment-free goal is to find what feels doable and empowering for you. Next Steps: Nutrition education and behavior change take time, which is why weâll continue to meet weekly after the first appointment.
