About Martina
Greetings! Thanks for this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Martina Samm. My experience as a clinical dietitian includes one-on-one counseling for general health and wellness along with the following chronic conditions: cardiovascular disease, liver disease, pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and weight management. I am an avid researcher and supporter for the use of nutrient-dense ‘Superfoods’, MyPlate, and The Mediterranean Diet and Lifestyle. They have proven to be extremely helpful when creating a healthier diet and worth looking into. All are backed by decades of solid, evidence-based research. My role as a dietitian is to create a welcoming, nonjudgmental environment to support your decision to improve your health. I’ll do my best to help you put into practice solid science-based nutritional and lifestyle recommendations that address your health concerns. Recommendations that will move you toward your goals.
Approach to care
My approach is holistic. It is also known as functional medicine. We are not just our bodies. We are also our thoughts/emotions and our unique combination of beliefs and values. They make us who we are. They are interdependent. The effect on one, effects the others. By making positive changes in all aspects of ourselves, we create a healthy, balanced whole person. When it comes to food choices, this centuries-old quote says it best: “Let food be thy medicine and let thy medicine be food.” It states the very simple fact that daily food choices are important. What we eat has a direct and lasting effect on our health. I personally practice and professionally encourage others to eat the most nutrient-dense foods on a daily basis and nutrition science tells us it works.
Your first session with Martina
We'll focus on getting to know each other and come up with a few short-term action plans. I may ask a few questions to clarify your answers about your medical history, what and when you eat, daily physical activity, etc. from the intake questionnaire. Future sessions will be used to plan more specific actions tailored to your personal needs. Such as: - use specific dietary recommendations to address chronic disease issues and improve the health of the body - find ways to increase daily physical activity - improve the quality of sleep and restfulness, if needed - discuss thoughts and emotions, both negative and positive, and how they affect our choices and decisions - stress management will also be addressed - explore what you value and believe in You have taken the first step toward a healthier you by signing up with Nourish. It reveals your desire to live your best life. Our approach has worked for thousands of people. It can work for you, too. Let’s do this!
