About Melissa

Hi, I’m Melissa Hughey, MS, RD, LD, CNSC, and I’m a Registered Dietitian with over a decade of experience in clinical nutrition, home infusion, and industry roles, with a strong focus on nutrition support and medical nutrition therapy. I earned my BS from the University of Alabama and my MS and Dietetic Internship from the University of Southern Mississippi. I’ve worked closely with multidisciplinary teams, supported clinician education, and stay active in dietetic organizations at every level. I also love mentoring future dietitians and advancing research‑informed practice. Outside of work, I’m a lifelong tap dancer, a 10‑time half‑marathon finisher, and someone who loves time on the lake with family and friends. I’m here to understand your goals and help you build a realistic, supportive plan that fits your life

Approach to care

I believe nutrition care works best when it’s personal, practical, and tailored to your real life. My goal is to understand your story, your challenges, and your priorities so we can build a plan that truly fits you. I use evidence-based medical nutrition therapy and focus on translating complex recommendations into clear, manageable steps you can use day to day. Whether you’re navigating a new diagnosis or working toward long‑term health goals, I aim to create a supportive space where you feel informed and confident. I value open communication, strong partnerships, and a collaborative approach that leads to meaningful, sustainable progress.

Your first session with Melissa

Your first appointment is all about getting a clear picture of your health, your goals, and what day‑to‑day life looks like for you. We’ll start by reviewing your medical history, current concerns, and any recent lab work or provider recommendations. From there, we’ll talk through your routines, eating patterns, symptoms, and anything that might be influencing your nutrition needs. I take a structured but conversational approach—you can expect thoughtful questions, a clear explanation of how nutrition fits into your overall care, and space to share what’s been challenging or confusing. Together, we’ll identify your priorities and outline a plan that feels realistic and aligned with your goals. By the end of the visit, you’ll walk away with a better understanding of your nutrition needs, initial strategies to get started, and a roadmap for what we’ll focus on in future sessions. My goal is for you to feel informed, supported, and confident about the next steps in your care.
