About Melissa
I am so happy to be working with Nourish! I have worked for over 13 years in GI-related nutrition. Prior to this I worked as a "generalist", seeing many different diagnoses, but not really getting to be an expert in any. My goal in specializing was to become an expert in GI nutrition and teach/train others to a part this specialty as well. GI nutrition is an ever and fast-changing nutrition specialty, I keep up on latest research/literature in regards to myriad of GI diagnoses. I am experienced in enteral and parenteral feeding management as well as EoE and gastroparesis along with the other diagnoses listed.
Approach to care
Most GI patients are motivated to feel better and improve symptoms. My goal is to add foods back into your diet and to not continue with extensive, long-term eliminations. I do use a Motivational Interviewing approach to learn more about you and what symptoms you're experiencing so that I can best direct your care. While I can address weight management concerns, I use a HAES (Health at Any Size) approach or Intuitive Eating.
Your first session with Melissa
My goal is to get to know you; what symptoms you have (being as descriptive as possible), what you eat or enjoy eating, and to provide some initial suggestions to aid in improving symptoms, symptom control in the context of expanding your diet.

Education
Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Master of Science in Food and Nutrition Management and the Nutrition Resident Program through the University of Central Oklahoma
Hobbies
I enjoy being active with my boys, watching their school related activities (sports, music events), and participating in fundraising as well as the educational advisory board at my son's school. I was a Varsity athlete at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, participating on the rowing team and have carried that love of athletics into my adulthood. I enjoy exercising, lifting weights, and going to the YMCA with my boys to take a class or workout with them. I enjoy watching Badger Football, Basketball and Volleyball as well as the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers (in-person is great, but on TV is typical).
