About Michele
Hi I'm Michele! I have spent the last ten years working in hospitals to provide care to our most vulnerable patients in the critical care setting. From my experience as a critical care dietitian, I learned how integral nutritional care is to the well-being of patients and their quality of life. I have worked in many different settings such as intensive care (neonatal, pediatric and adult) as well as outpatient settings such as dialysis units and bariatric surgery. My areas of expertise: celiac disease, endometriosis, nutrition support (tube feeding and total parenteral nutrition), pre-diabetes, Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes, Bariatric Surgery (pre and post-op), weight loss, weight maintenance and desired weight gain. I have experience working with patients with end-stage renal disease, liver disease and cancer diagnoses and work with patients, families and their healthcare providers to develop nutrition care plans that support their goals of care.
Approach to care
My approach is non-judgemental and my goal is to empower you to feel confident in making good nutrition-related decisions for yourself and your family. When working with me, my goal is for you to feel heard, respected and cared for. I aspire to be a guide who will gently provide direction when you need and accountability when you desire. My goal for all of my patients is to feel encouraged and empowered to meet their goals.
Your first session with Michele
Our first session will be a get to know you session. One thing that is really important for our time together is that I fully understand what your day to day life looks like. I want to provide real suggestions that are impactful--not stress inducing or not possible with your day to day life. I will ask questions about your sleeping habits, meal habits and exercise habits. Most importantly, I will want to know what your goals are in relation to nutrition so I can find the best ways to help you achieve YOUR goals!
Education
I graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor's of Science in Food Science with a concentration in dietetics in 2013. I completed my dietetic internship in 2014 with Louisiana Tech University and then went on to complete my Master of Science degree in Nutrition and Dietetics in 2016. I obtained my Certified Nutrition Support Clinician board certification in 2019 and am currently certified.
Hobbies
I am a certified Pilates instructor and teach reformer and mat pilates. I love pilates, reading, traveling and spending time with my two corgis. I am currently learning how to play tennis and am studying French. I love to cook and am always experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen.
