About Mikaela
Born in Honolulu, raised in the beautiful PNW, and now residing in Southern California, I have a deep appreciation and love for cultural, local foods. Over the last decade I have taught and competed in the fitness industry, practiced clinical nutrition in the hospital and cared for patients on home health. I obtained my master's degree from Bastyr University in 2012 with a focus on whole foods-based nutrition and attended the UC San Diego dietetic internship with a heavy clinical nutrition focus. My background in nutrition covers the span of behavioral change and preventative medicine to critical care.
Approach to care
Mind-body focused Registered Dietitian with a non-diet and weight inclusive approach. While I understand there is a time/place for specific medically warranted diets, I generally practice mindful and intuitive eating while seeking a deeply rooted understanding to our relationship (s) with food. We will work together to learn from a place of centeredness, capture the catalyst for nutrition changes and develop a rhythm necessary for your personal and unique lifestyle.
Your first session with Mikaela
Each individual's reason for seeking nutrition care is personal and I want to hear your unique story. During our first session together, we will get to know one another and develop a focus for your nutrition journey. This may or may not include gathering background information around a typical day of eating and exercising along with realistic goal setting, discussing nutrition topics, providing nutrition education and/or working through our relationship with food or our bodies. Remember, this journey is unique to you, and I will meet you wherever you are at.
