About Monica
Hello! I am a Bilingual (Spanish) Dietitian who strongly believes in the importance of cultural cuisine and its role in personal identity and familial connections. A dismissal of this often leads to the development of a not so great relationship with foods that nourished our ancestors! It is incumbent upon those we care for that we (RDs, MDs, RNs, etc;) understand this. I am all about helping individuals learn how all foods can fit into their dietary landscape.
Approach to care
The main tenet in my consultation space is non-judgment. Often folk come to us embarrassed to tell us what they eat, ashamed of their weight, and other thoughts probably thrusted upon them by the weight-focused environment that surrounds us; ours will be a judgment-free zone! Moreover, I will meet patients where they are-even though they may come to an RD consult, they may not be ready for change, and that needs to be respected.
Your first session with Monica
In the first session we will do the typical stuff-review your dietary intake, etc; and discuss what your goals are for the nutrition visits. We'll work together to find what works best for you. I do not tell people what to do, but rather I will offer suggestions/recommendations based on what you believe is achievable for you. We will work as a team-because I want you to win!
