About Nicholas

Nick Berretta is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with a background in biochemistry and behavioral health. He has spent the entirety of his dietetics career providing effective nutrition counseling to individuals with disordered eating, and is thrilled to be continuing this work at Nourish. Nick specializes in managing clinical and subclinical level disordered eating with expertise in treating: Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Orthorexia, and Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder. He also has experience in managing co-occurring medical conditions including: PCOS, diabetes, pre-diabetes, gastric rupture, refeeding syndrome, Celiac disease, bradycardia, chronic orthostasis, and other medical conditions commonly associated with malnutrition. Nick practices nutrition from an evidence-based platform, and counsels individuals to reduce behaviors while simultaneously providing the necessary education to transition into recovery and avoid relapse.

Approach to care

Although he interned at Bastyr University, and respects the value of whole foods nutrition, Nick approaches eating with an All Foods Fit philosophy and is an advocate for the Health At Every Size movement. He practices motivational interviewing from a place of weight neutrality, and understands that bodies naturally exist in all shapes and sizes. He firmly believes that everyone deserves access to quality and unbiased healthcare, and that every body is deserving of love, respect, and belonging.

Your first session with Nicholas

What to expect at your first session is a comprehensive intake regarding eating habits and behaviors, medical history, and discussions regarding motivation for change and recovery. Nick believes in targeting behavior change as the first step in eating disorder treatment, and will help you discover how to challenge uncomfortable thoughts and actions around food. Once behaviors are well managed, he will guide you on a path towards gentle nutrition and body liberation, remaining mindful of the delicate space of early recovery. At the core of his approach, Nick believes that education regarding the development and course of eating disorders is key to implementing legitimate steps to improvement.
