About Oscar
Hi there! My name is Oscar. I am a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist, who holds a Master of Science in Nutrition from University of Southern California. With many years of dietitian experience spanning inpatient care, long-term care, and outpatient counseling, I have a comprehensive understanding of the how nutrition impacts health in a variety of settings and populations. I've had extensive experience supporting patients with diabetes, kidney and heart conditions, high cholesterol, and weight-related challenges. Whether it's managing a chronic condition, losing weight or simply building a healthier relationship with food, I am looking forward to helping you every step of the way!
Approach to care
Change is difficult. And making dietary changes can be even more challenging. That's because so much of our eating habits is influenced by factors such as our culture, emotions, lifestyle and resources. That's why I approach my sessions with zero judgement and collaborate with patients to create plans that are tailored to their individual needs. Making sustainable lifestyle changes is not an overnight process, nor is it always linear. I don't see setbacks as failures, but rather as opportunities for us to refine the nutrition plan to better suit your evolving needs. All the while, I will also be there to cheer on all of your wins- big and small! I don't believe in fad diets or overly restrictive diet rules. I believe in applying sound science to guide you in setting realistic goals that meet you where you are at.
Your first session with Oscar
The first session is about getting to know you! We will discuss your eating habits, dietary needs, lifestyle, medical history as well as long term nutrition goals you would like to achieve. Based on this insight, we will identify practical changes that we can implement over time. By the end of the session, we will have developed clear and attainable short term goals to kickstart your journey towards better health through food!
