About Paulina
I was born and raised in MichoacĆ”n, a state in the heart of Mexico. I grew up in a large family with numerous cousins and delicious meals. I enjoy learning about different languages and cultures, and I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to live in four countries throughout my life. I treasure these experiences greatly, as they have shaped the person and provider I am today. Iāve always been passionate about playing and watching sports, but in the past couple of years, Iāve found a new love for bouldering! I love climbing with friends and sharing this sport with others. I also enjoy biking and spending time outdoors. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over 20 years ago, and living with it sparked my interest in nutrition and the healthcare field.
Approach to care
I root my approach in patient-centered care, meaning that I strive to always prioritize your needs, preferences, and values in all our sessions. This includes consideration of your personal, cultural, and religious background, as well as your emotional and mental health. I will check in regularly to ensure our work continues to align with your goals and values, and to establish an open and trusting relationship where you can voice your needs and concerns. To best prepare for our sessions and provide you with the support you need, I rely on current literature and evidence to inform my work and the interventions I suggest.
Your first session with Paulina
In our first session together, you will find a welcoming space for us to get to know each other better. From the very beginning, I want to ensure it is a comfortable and familiar environment. The largest portion of our time will be spent on a thorough nutrition assessment to gather important details such as your food preferences, health history, and dietary intake. The length of the assessment may vary, but the more details I can gather, the better equipped weāll be to set goals and create a plan together. We may not get through everything in the first session, and thatās okay! I will do my best to make the session as stress-free and non-overwhelming as possible. Toward the end of the session, we will discuss next steps: Is this a good fit for you? Am I the best person to provide the nutrition support you need at this time? When and how often should we schedule appointments? Additionally, we will create one or two small goals to work on moving forward.
