About Peggy
Hi, my name is Peggy! I'm a licensed, registered dietitian with many years of experience helping people improve their health by making small, incremental changes to build healthier lifestyle habits. I enjoy teaching people about the interwoven connectivity between personal behaviors and health, and how the dietary and lifestyle choices made today influence ones' health status not only now, but in the years to come. Iāve had a richly textured career not only counseling patients, but also teaching nutrition in universities and conducting nutrition research at Johns Hopkins and at the University of Maryland. Oh, and along the way I owned a waterfront restaurant on North Carolinaās Outer Banks- that was a lot of fun!
Approach to care
People often compliment me for my informative counseling style and for explaining health topics in terms that make sense to them. My counseling is based on sound, evidence-based nutritional science and realistic strategies. I empower the client by putting them in the drivers seat. My recommendations are steered by what you want to focus on, so that the series of short term goals we develop over time are realistic and things you actually want to do! Itās all about making small, incremental changes or taking ābaby stepsā. Think of me as your coach to help you reach short term health goals that, with practice, will become new health habits and eventually morph into a healthier lifestyle.
Your first session with Peggy
Your first session is an informal conversation to help us get to know each other. Iām a realistic dietitian who works with people āwhere theyāre atā before moving forward with a nutrition plan. This initial meeting gives me an opportunity to learn about your current lifestyle, eating habits, medical history and to understand challenges that tripped up your progress in the past. In this session, we'll discuss your health goals and design a customized approach to reach them that's realistic and comfortable for you.
Education
PhD in Health Behavior and Education from the University of Maryland in College Park; MPH in Nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; BS degrees in Community Nutrition and in Food Systems Management from Oregon State University in Corvallis.
Hobbies
Iām an outdoorsy kind of person and enjoy hiking, exploring historical sites, antiquing for ātreasures" and especially love gardening. I find gardening very relaxing and have left a trail of rose bushes and flower beds at previous places Iāve lived for others to enjoy.
