About Prakasam
Hi, I’m Prakasam, though many colleagues know me as Dr. PRAX. I’m a male Registered Dietitian based in Charlotte, NC, with four years of experience helping people build healthier, more sustainable relationships with food. I earned a PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry and hold credentials as an RD and LDN, reflecting my commitment to science and patient care. I’ve authored over 30 peer reviewed articles on diabetes, cancer, and Alzheimer’s disease, and I bring more than 12 years of research experience from Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Charleston, University of South Carolina (USC), and UNC Chapel Hill. In practice I’ve supported clients across acute care, skilled nursing, long term care, assisted living , and independent living. Outside of work I love volleyball and listening to music.
Approach to care
My care philosophy blends evidence-based science with a warm, collaborative approach. I work with you to translate research into practical steps that fit your life, not the other way around. I practice with empathy and without judgment, honoring where you are today while setting clear, achievable actions. I favor a weight-neutral, health-at-every-size mindset and focus on sustainable habits, not quick fixes. My aim is to educate you so you feel confident making informed choices that support your whole well being. Together we will build a plan you can live with long term.
Your first session with Prakasam
Our first appointment is all about you. We’ll start by reviewing your medical history, your relationship with food, and your goals, and we’ll consider any lab work or biometrics you’ve had. This is a low-pressure, judgment-free conversation designed to reduce anxiety and set a clear path forward. You don’t need to have everything figured out before we meet; we’ll figure it out together. By the end, we’ll establish 1–2 realistic, personalized goals and begin shaping a meal plan that fits your life, preferences, and schedule. I’m here with you every step.
