About Rachel
Hi! I'm Rachel, since I hope we'll be visiting together soon, I'll share just a little bit about me: I am an Indiana native, and have been working as a dietitian for over 8 years now - how time flies! I actually had little idea of what I wanted out of my future and then one day I stumbled into this field, and have been so thankful ever since - it really has just felt like the perfect fit. My experience throughout the years has largely involved 1:1 nutritional counseling and coaching, which is by far my favorite setting to work in. I believe very strongly in a provider/client relationship that consists of working alongside each other, rather than the dynamic of an instructor-student relationship. While a dietitian may be the 'nutrition expert', YOU are the expert in knowing your body.
Approach to care
My aim is always to provide an approach tailored to the individual while building off the same foundation of 2 specific components: grace and resilience. Life is hard, managing a disease or condition is hard; by allowing yourself grace and growing your resilience in difficult circumstances, mental energy can be redirected towards problem-solving & experimenting with solutions. I utilize the framework provided by this foundation to further refine my initial approach and customize it to fit your needs specifically. A primary objective of said customization is participating in a deep dive of evidence-based recommendations, and how we can incorporate them in a way that is practical while also allowing for flexibility. You can expect clear and concise instruction(s) during any nutrition/diet education that is covered during this, as well as opportunities for collaborative brainstorming, troubleshooting, and strategic planning.
Your first session with Rachel
My goal for our first few meetings is solely to get to know you as a person; your day-to-day routine and things you care about, physical and mental health history, the food environment/culture in which you grew up, things you do and don't want as part of your life, factors related to general wellbeing, such as sleep and stress levels. We will also discuss your expectations for these sessions and what you hope you gain from our visits. The initial session does not always involve specific diet/nutrition-related education, however you can still expect to end the visit with clearly defined objective(s) and a clear action plan.
