About Ruth
Ruth Ranks is a registered dietitian with 30+ years of experience primarily focused on helping people find the spot where good health, good food, and reasonable effort intersect. Ruth’s passion for the science of nutrition was sparked as a teen, when her father survived (and later thrived) after having a heart attack when he was just 44 years old. Based in southeast Michigan, she has completed advanced training in adult weight management, mindful eating, chronic disease prevention and management, and therapeutic lifestyle-based nutrition.
Approach to care
Ruth’s approach is personalized, collaborative, and non-judgmental. She enjoys empowering and guiding people as they work toward their goals to improve health and enjoy delicious food in ways that are realistic and sustainable. Ruth takes an additive approach to food and nutrition – while working with you to ditch feelings of deprivation and guilt. Her mission is to help you become your own health expert by discovering the skills, strategies and systems which work best for you, growing those skills into lasting habits, and celebrating your successes with you along the way!
Your first session with Ruth
Ruth will ask you plenty of questions, listening closely to learn all about you and your life…your unique experiences, strengths, challenges, and goals. Ruth will explain how your ongoing sessions together will be structured and will answer any questions you may have about how she partners with her clients. It’s likely she’ll ask you if you are willing to do a little bit of homework between your first and second visit. Together, you will wrap up by formulating an individualized plan that is focused on putting both the art and the science of nutrition into action to achieve your goals.
