About Shana
My career as a dietitian began in the hospital, treating people who were already too sick to make changes or care enough to improve their health. I quickly transitioned out of the clinical setting when I realized I wanted to provide medical nutrition therapy as a preventative measure in order to lower the incidence of hospital admissions. Since then I have been trained in motivational interviewing and use this skill to counsel clients in the outpatient setting. Being a dietitian is especially rewarding when at the end of a session a client says, " Wow, I did not know how much I have to learn and how realistic this all can be".
Approach to care
It's not a diet, it's a lifestyle! My goal is to meet my clients where they feel comfortable to make changes. I will always provide you with the tools and resources to understand the scientific reasoning to make a change. However, the changes my client chooses to make will be at the stage of change they are ready for. I use motivational interviewing to drive out and determine changes that need to be made to improve my client's health. I pride myself in being a food lover (and cook) and exercise enthusiast; however, I am realistic when it comes to my clients and always encourage food choices and prep, as well as exercise routines, based on their comfort level.
Your first session with Shana
In your first session with me you can expect to share your medical, nutrition, and lifestyle history with me. I will want to know what your health goals are in order for me to provide you with the right education and tools to begin making changes. I will encourage you to set a SMART goal or two at the end of your session which we will use as a benchmark for change at the follow-up visit.
