About Valerie
Hi! My name is Valerie, I've been a Registered Dietitian for 15 years. My initial degree was in History and Education (still a total history buff). As I got older and had kids, I became really interested in food/nutrition and how it all works in the body. I also wanted to know what was 'true' about nutrition and what was 'click bait.' Through the years I've worked primarily with kids and adults with eating disorders, disordered eating and chronic dieters. I've also spent a fair amount of time working with people with diabetes and other chronic health conditions. I also have experience working with families helping them manage their picky eaters at home. I hold a special place in my heart for young families who are trying to provide a judgement free food environment at home so that their children can grow up having a healthy relationship with food.
Approach to care
Collaborative--I don't tell clients what to do. It's more about what works for you---we'll find strategies that work for you to help you with whatever concerns you may have about your health or relationship to food. I am staunchly anti-diet. This doesn't mean everything is a free for all, but we know that being rigid with food or physical activity does not lead to lasting health or sustainable changes.
Your first session with Valerie
We'll get to know each other! My goal for all sessions is to make sure you feel comfortable---food can be a tricky subject, I want clients to feel as though they can be open, honest and not fear I'm going to judge them. We'll talk about your food, medical and physical activity history and what that has looked like, and felt like, for you.
