About Valerie
Hello! My name is Valerie and I am a registered dietitian with more than 8 years of experience working with adults and children of all ages and medical conditions. As a registered dietitian with a clinical background, I have had the opportunity to connect with patients and help them navigate their most positive and negative health-related situations. Over time, I have developed a passion for 1:1 nutrition counseling and helping people meet their weight goals by utilizing a whole-body approach. I care about your preferences, goals and current lifestyle because it allows me to meet you where you're at and move forward with you equipped with the knowledge that there WILL be speed bumps along the way to lasting behavior change. I find it beneficial to view health as not just the absence of disease, but also the state of feeling your best both mentally and physically.
Approach to care
My approach to nutrition care is one that is science-based and includes both the mind and the body. When providing nutrition care, I strive to keep in mind the importance of mindset and behavior change, the whole-body approach, encourage a positive relationship with food and always meeting you where you're at. I enjoy getting to know you as a person so that I can help you become the healthiest version of yourself.
Your first session with Valerie
In our first session I would like to learn more about who you are as a person and what your goals are. It is also important to me that I learn about your expectations for me as your dietitian so that we can work together to create a plan that will set you up with the greatest chance for lasting success.
Education
I am a graduate of the Coordinated Program in Dietetics at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). I have a Master's in Dietetic Studies, Bachelor's of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition and Associate's in Communications.
Hobbies
In my free time I enjoy baking (food science nerd here!), reading and doing trivia with friends.
