About Vanessa
I'm a registered dietitian with experience working primarily in outpatient clinics. I've always preferred outpatient, because I really enjoy witnessing people's progress throughout our follow ups. I love giving nutrition education and have even facilitated classes in topics ranging from weight management, irritable bowel syndrome and kidney health.
Approach to care
There is no one size fits all when it comes to the dietary recommendations I give. Although I will provide you with evidence-based nutrition information, I strive to help you translate this information into actionable steps that are realistic to YOU! This means taking into account your cultural background and any lifestyle and financial barriers you may have. The appointment is yours, which means you determine what is most important to focus on and what realistically you are willing to change. I get that talking about the foods we eat and why we eat them may feel intrusive or embarrassing to some people. Which is why I strive to make you feel comfortable enough to open up to me and never feel judged.
Your first session with Vanessa
Expect me to ask a lot of questions and I encourage you to do the same. The questions I ask are to help me better tailor my recommendations to you. Remember there is no one size fits all when it comes to dietary habits and there is no 'perfect' diet, only food choices that are perfect for you. Knowing more about you keeps me from giving you recommendations that just does not make sense for you and your lifestyle. Once I've obtained enough information to better understand your unique situation and what you are looking to achieve with our appointments, I usually provide some nutrition education. I find that people are more motivated to make changes when they know a little bit about the reasons why I give the dietary recommendations that I give. We then work as a team to create mini goals, focusing on behavior change, in order for you to achieve your ultimate health goal.
