About Zelma

I’m a dietitian with a passion for helping others live healthier lives. My journey into nutrition started with my own struggles with an eating disorder, which sparked my love for food and fitness. After spending a year working as an inpatient dietitian in NICU and adult care, I realized I wanted more time to connect with patients, so I transitioned to outpatient care. Now, I work part-time in long-term care, where I find deep fulfillment supporting the elderly. I’m also a personal trainer and love educating clients on diabetes, heart health, and weight management.

Approach to care

I approach patient care with empathy and a deep belief that every person is unique. I take the time to truly listen to my patients, understanding their challenges, goals, and what matters most to them. I focus on creating a supportive environment where we can work together to find practical, sustainable solutions that fit their lifestyle. My goal is not just to provide information, but to empower my patients to make choices that lead to real, lasting change. Whether it's managing a chronic condition or simply improving overall health, I aim to make each person feel seen, heard, and supported on their journey to better health.

Your first session with Zelma

In our first session, I aim to create a welcoming, comfortable space where we can start building a trusting relationship. I’ll take the time to really listen to you—learning about your health history, lifestyle, and goals. It’s important to me that we also talk about your personal challenges and your relationship with food and fitness, so I can better understand your unique needs. From there, we’ll work together to set realistic and meaningful goals that feel achievable. My goal is for you to feel supported and confident as we begin this journey together, with a focus on creating sustainable changes that align with your values and lifestyle.

Education

I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of New Mexico (UNM), followed by a Master’s degree in Nutrition from UNM as well. My education provided me with a strong foundation in both the science of nutrition and the practical skills needed to support individuals in achieving their health goals.

Hobbies

Outside of work, I’m passionate about fitness and enjoy staying active through personal training, hiking, and exploring new outdoor activities. I also love experimenting with healthy recipes and learning more about nutrition through books and podcasts. Staying connected to my own health journey helps me better support my clients in theirs.
